Masala House Indian Bistro – Best Indian Restaurant in Bridgeville, Washington & Shadyside PA
Masala House Indian Bistro: Authentic Indian Cuisine in Bridgeville, Washington PA & Shadyside PA
Our Journey from Homesick Cravings to Culinary Excellence
When chef Prasanna Kumar moved from Karnataka to the United States, he initially survived on pizza and dreamed of sambhar and hot rice. His first restaurant jobs in New Jersey taught him the basics of dosa-making. After training at the legendary MTR restaurant in Bangalore, where he learned to respect every ingredient, he returned to the U.S. and eventually opened Saffron in Moon Township. Years of experience running and selling restaurants (including Namaste India, Mother India and Mintt) taught him how to balance authenticity with adaptation.
In 2018, Kumar and his brother Suresh Kumar launched Masala House Bistro in Shadyside, fusing homestyle recipes with thoughtful craftsmanship. Kumar grinds his own masalas and uses more than twenty spices for dishes like Chettinad chicken. Today the Masala House family has locations in Bridgeville, Washington and Shadyside/Pittsburgh. A new Brownsville Road location is also in the works.
Signature Dishes & Culinary Philosophyhilosophy
Masala House strives to offer diners the diverse flavors of India. The kitchen’s best‑selling platter features Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Daal of the Day (lentils), Adrak Saag (spinach cooked with ginger), Aloo Matar (potatoes and peas), Chicken Vindaloo, papadum and Mango Rice Pudding, served with naan and beverages such as mango lassi and spicy lemonade. Other crowd favourites include Chettinad chicken simmered with freshly ground coconut milk and a blend of 22 spices; slow‑cooked biryani layered with basmati rice, yogurt‑marinated meat, crispy onions and saffron milk; malai kofta reminiscent of celebratory feasts and a rich dal makhani slow cooked to perfection. Kumar’s personal favourite is kofta curry, a recipe passed down from his mother.
The restaurant emphasises customised spice levels—guests can request mild, medium or spicy preparations—and offers gluten‑free options upon request.
